Pikey Peak Trek is a delightful trekking in Solukhumbu District of eastern Nepal. In the last several years, this trek has been a very popular trek among those who love to trek in not very high altitudes but are still willing to see great Mountain views with unique native culture and Nepal countryside lifestyle. This trek attracts hundreds of trekkers every month but yet a less busy route compared to other traditional well-established routes such as Annapurna and Everest Base Camp.
Embark on this multiday hiking trip to its friendly Pikey Peak Trek which provides an opportunity to discover Sherpa Culture, Centuries-old Buddhist monasteries, and sacred shrines along the way. Day 01: Arrival to Kathmandu [1,330 m]:
Upon your arrival, a representative from Nepal Sherpa Treks Nepal will be waiting outside the airport gates to take you to the hotel. Depending on time of arrival, plans will be made for a briefing meeting once you have settled in.
Day 02: Kathmandu to Dhap [2,900 m] – (B,L,D):
From Kathmandu Valley; Dhap (2900 m) is situated at the distance of 230 km. If journey will start at early 6 am, one can reach Nepal Thok for lunch. It takes around 7-8 hours of bus or jeep ride to reach Dhap.
Day 03: Dhap to Japrey [2,930 m] – (B,L,D):
After a drive of 6-7 hours, one can reachJiprey which is 2930 m high from the sea level. Throughout the journey, Chauri gai can be seen. Similarly, long stone mane can be seen in different places. During spring season (Mid-March to Mid- May), one will be able to see forest painted by Rhododendron magnificently.
Day 04: Japrey to Pikey Base Camp [3,600 m] – (B,L,D):
Pikey Base Camp located at an altitude of 3600 m above sea level can be reached after the journey of 6- 7 hours hike from Jiprey. Small tea houses are available in the route to base camp whereas there are 2 hotels at base camp for food and lodging. During spring season (Mid-March to Mid- May), one will be able to see spectacular displays of rhododendrons.
Day 05: Pikey Base Camp – Pikey Peak – Junbesi [2,860 m] – (B,L,D):
We get up early in the morning with warm clothes and climb up Pikey Peak (4,070m.).It is about one hour walking to get to Pikey Peak. You will see the best sunrise and magnificent view of the Himalayas like Dhaulagiri, Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nupatse, Numbur, Gaurisankhar, Langtang to the far west and others mountains. After that, we hike down to Jarsabhanjyang for breakfast.Then start trek towards Junbesi. We can be reached Taktor(Lunch Place) after 2/3 hrs hiking from Jarsabhyanjyang. After taking lunch we can be reached 2/3 hrs Junbesi from Taktor. Junbesi is considered to be Sherpa’s most beautiful villages, which lies at the height of 2990m. There are 1 ancient Budhist Monestry.It was the Point old famous route of Everest Trekking Route. There are some well facilitated hotels operated by local Sherpas. Pikey base Camp to Junbesi takes 7/8 hours hiking and then overnight at lodge.
Day 06: Excursion day around Thuptencholing.
Trek to Thupten Chholing monastery a large monastery with nearly 500 monks and nuns live and practice Buddhism. Tour around Junbesi in the afternoon. (B, L, D)
Day 07: Fly or Drive Back to Kathmandu [1,330 m] – (B):
Early morning we drive to Phaplu and catch a flight through the Himalayan mountain range back to Kathmandu(35 minutes) or drive(9 hrs). On arrival, we are transferred to our hotel. The remainder of the day is free.
Day 08: Departure
We take morning flight to Kathmandu and our representative from Nepal Sherpa Treks will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
Itinerary option II.
Day 01: Arrival to Kathmandu [1,330 m]:

Day 2: Drive to Shivalaya 1790m
Early in the morning we start driving on a private jeep to Shivalaya from Kathmandu which may take nearly 8 hours or so. The drive will be scenic with views of lush green hills and vegetation around. You’ll drive through Dhulikhel and Manthali to reach Shivalaya. If the weather is clear, you’ll be able to get a nice view of the snowcapped mountains. Shivalaya is a small village that is located at the bank of Shivalaya River. Overnight at a lodge in Shivalaya.
Day 3: Shivalaya to Bhandar 2190m
After breakfast we will officially trek starts from Shivalaya towards Bhandar with gradual up hills for 2-3 hours or so and reach Deurali. After luch in Deurali we can see the Numbur Himal and Gaurishankar, Pikey peaks and other snowy mountains. After an hour of trekking on a downhill trail, you’ll reach Bhandar. Bhandar is a big Sherpa village that has two stupas and a small monastery. You explore the place in the evening and have dinner. Overnight at a lodge in Bhandar.
Day 4: Bhandar to Gumba 2800m
From Bhandar, you’ll start your trek to Goli Gumba with gradual descend from Bhandar to Likhu Khola, you start walking up to Namkheli (2300 m). Once, you reach the top, you can have a nice view of Bhandar and Thotung. Then, you’ll move towards Gumba. This day’s trek is a bit tiring as the distance is more and elevation is more than 600 m. In Goli Gomba, you’ll get a clear idea about life in the rural parts of Nepal. Overnight at a lodge in Gumba.
Day 5: Goli Gumba to Pikey Peak Base Camp 3808m
After breakfast we will walk towards Pikey Peak Base camp from Gumba. You take an elevation of more than a thousand meters. The trail takes you past rhododendron forests, pine forests, and small settlements of sherpas. Usually, you can climb to the peak the same day, but for the view of the sunrise, you spend a night in the base camp in order to view the sunrise the next morning. Overnight at a lodge in Pikey peak base camp.
Day 6: Hike to Pikey Peak 4067m and trek to Junbesi 2700m/6 hours
Early morning around 4:45am, you’ll follow a gradual ascend to the Pikey peak, which is mostly covered with prayer flags. From the top, you will see the peak of Everest and other snowcapped mountains. You can also visit the cheese factory where Himalayan yak cheese is made and then we will stop for breakfast at Jase-bhanjyang then through forests, hills, and villages, you’ll descend towards the Junbesi village. The area has few monasteries and stupas where you can explore the Buddhist culture and the lifestyle of local people. Overnight at a lodge in Junbesi.
Day 7: Exploration Day to Thupten Chholing Monastery 2920m/4 hours
After breakfast, you follow the trails along the river and through fields towards the Thupten Chholing monastery. The trail is beautiful and you pass many villages and farms. The monastery is home to around 600 monks and nuns the place feeds and educates a large number of people. Then we return back to Junbesi. Overnight at a lodge in Junbesi.
